This beautiful recipe is from my sister! After listening to her say making coffee creamer at home was so easy and not believing it for years, it was a little funny to finally give her recipe a go and discover that she was not wrong. (Sorry, little sister! I should have believed!)
Although I partially grew up in the land of coffee, I've always loved my coffee with a bit of creamy sweetness (everything in balance, eh?) and have found the flavors of coffee creamers commonly available near me to be rather boring. That's the beauty of this recipe - it is so flexible! I've included my favorite adaptations so far (I will update as I discover new ones), but do what sparks joy for you!
Cardamom Vanilla Creamer
(1 bottle*)
Basic Ingredients
2 cups of cold water
2 cups of sugar
473ml / 16oz of half 'n half**
For Amaretto Creamer
3/4 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of almond extract
For Cardamom Vanilla Creamer
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 teaspoon of powdered cardamom (or to taste)
For Italian Sweet Creamer
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1/2 teaspoon of almond extract
*One 946ml (32oz) bottle.
**This is usually one carton at what is currently my local shop.
Directions
1) Put a medium-large pan or wok on medium heat and combine the water and sugar, stirring occasionally until it begins to boil and then stirring continuously for 10 minutes while the syrup continues boiling.
2) Once you've removed the syrup from the heat add the spices and/or extracts of your choosing and allow to cool.
3) Take your 946ml (32oz) bottle and add the half 'n half, then top it off with the flavored syrup and shake well to combine.
4) Use as you like with coffee or hot chocolate or whatever your heart desires, and enjoy!
