Fried Cabbage and Sausage

An old-time favorite I haven't made in far too long! Enjoy!

Fried Cabbage and Sausage

Ingredients
1 tablespoon of butter
1 tablespoon of olive oil
1 medium onion (chopped)
5 cloves of garlic (crushed/minced)
375g / 13oz of sausage*
Black pepper (to taste)
1 medium head of cabbage (chopped)
3/4 cup of beer** or water
2 teaspoons of chicken bouillon powder***
Salt (to taste)

*I prefer kielbasa, but other varieties work nicely too!
**If you don't know what to do with the rest of the beer in the bottle, then there's a problem!
***A popular trick used by a lot of cooks here in the PRC. Adds a nice bit of flavor to pretty much anything!

Directions
1) Heat the butter and oil in a wok or large pan over medium heat.
2) Throw the onion in the pan and sauté until it starts to become translucent.
3) Stir in the garlic, sausage, and black pepper and sauté until the onion is soft.
4) Add the cabbage and salt and cook until it begins to wilt (about 10 minutes).
5) Stir in the sausage, beer or water, and seasonings and simmer for around 30 minutes. (If you want things to go faster be sure to chop the lower end of the cabbage near the stem more finely.) Check the seasonings once the cabbage is done and adjust accordingly.
6) Serve as is or over rice (or even with noodles!) and enjoy!
